BROJACK’S BLOGS – 01/09/12

A Youth Lock-in is scheduled for Sunday night, January 15th.  There is no school the following day, so we would like to invite all the youth to join with our new Associate Pastor Mike Rushing and the youth of our church to come to this lock-in.  We will begin with a special Evening Worship at 6:00 p.m.

It is time to start thinking about “Reach Up!” Basketball & Cheering.  Yes, it is our plan to have our basketball and cheering again this year.  We will have sign-up days at the church on Saturday, January 22nd, and Saturday, January 29th.  On both days, the sign up time will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.  We will also be sending sign-up sheets home with the children from school if possible.  If you miss getting one of the sign-up sheets or cannot make it to the church on the assigned days, you may call the church, 269-3664, and sign up by phone.  If the answering machine picks up, please leave a number at which we can reach you or you may leave your information on the machine.  We need the child’s name, grade in school, the name of the parent or guardian, and a phone number.

The starting date for “Reach Up!” Basketball & Cheering is Saturday, February 4th
The program will continue for 8 weeks and will end on Saturday, March 24th.  Games will begin each Saturday at 10:00 a.m.  All children who are in Kindergarten through Grade 6 are invited to participate.  The number of teams we have will depend upon the number of children participating.  As in the past, the program is free to all the children.  If anyone would like to donate to the program to help us keep it “free”, you may send your donations to “First Baptist Church”, P. O. Box 198, Shawneetown, IL 62984.

I want you to keep and eye on this paper and my articles for some very important dates in the near future.  Our church has obtained the copyright permission to show the film, “Courageous,” in our church.  We are now making plans for the dates of this showing.  I hope many of you can make it to see this life-changing movie.

Sons of the Father did make it to our Morning Worship last Sunday!  They shared with us that, in the 23 years they have been coming to Shawneetown, this was only the second time they had to cancel being here on the first Sunday of the year.  However, in both of those instances, they were able to come on the following Sunday.  That’s a pretty good record.  And, God truly blessed us through their music and message.  We had a wonderful crowd and all thoroughly enjoyed the time spent together!

Worshiping together is so very important for the people of God!  All through God’s Word, we see the people of Israel (in the Old Testament) and the members of the body of Christ (in the New Testament) coming together for worship and praise of their God!  Because if you are a true believer in Christ Jesus, you will one day spend eternity worshiping Him with the multitudes in Heaven!  Truth is, if you don’t enjoy worshiping Him now, you probably won’t be a part of those multitudes in Heaven!

As I say that, my thoughts go to Brother Bob Powell.  I just came from his visitation at the funeral home.  Bob and I didn’t worship a lot together since he and I pastored different churches.  Most of our meetings took place at the post office.  Two or three times a week we would see each other.  He would never fail to talk about the Lord and His soon coming again.  He truly looked forward to Heaven!  Even at the funeral home, his wife, Helen said to me, “Bob is where he wanted to be.”  And he would let you know about it!  And, ask if you are going there!  I have always appreciated Bob’s boldness.  So, I cannot end this article without asking, “Are you going to Heaven?”  Be aware that the only way to Heaven and eternal life is through a personal relationship with Jesus!

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6)

See you in Sunday School
