New Haven News

“Greetings,” from our little town down by the Little Wabash River.  The river is not changing much these days, at least, in our neck of the woods. The fishermen do report that the boat ramp is coated with mud that has settled on it since the water covered it and now it is difficult to use it.  It has also been reported that someone is using the ramp to play around on with their ATV’s.
Just in case you aren’t aware of it, the village has been hard at work last week cleaning up the damage to the fire department on Ford St. The place looks a good deal better and it is much safer, I hope to drive around. It is still not safe to be around that side of the building unless you have authority to be there. I hope this means that some day soon we will see signs of a new or improved building.
The Presbyterian Church held their annual Church meeting last Sunday morning instead of the Morning Worship service. Congregational reports were giving and passed around in booklet form. Pastor Laurie Fields-Halva served as the leader in the absence of a pastor. There was some discussion about moving forward in getting a pastor and we were pleased to have a visitor join us while she is working in our area. Everyone  greeted her and ask her to come back at her earliest convenience.
Personal Happenings:
Harlis Goforth was pleased to have his daughter Jan and her friend mollie stop by to visit last Tuesday,Feb . 14th(Valentine’s Day). They were on their way to Florida for a vacation. They were able to stay for an over night visit with him and I think he was glad for a break in his routine. His pastor from the “Ridge”(Union Ridge Church) as he calls it, also visits him on Sunday afternoons about once a month. Otherwise, his visitors are mostly his sister, Delores and his brother Kenny, who visit him daily.
Zella Medlin has returned from her vacation trip to Mexico. It is always a good trip when you can say “ I wish I could have stayed longer.” Everyone was pleased to see her back in Church this past week, anyway!!
Kenny and I attended Church services at The Christ The King Orthodox mission in Omaha last Saturday evening and afterwards enjoyed a belated birthday celebration for Katie & Kimberly Gleason. Katie & Kimberly turned nine years old on the 9th of February will they were in Wheaton, Il. This was a chance for all their family and friends in Southern Illinois to wish them “Happy Birthday”. Katie & Kimberly have 5 brothers and sisters, Andrea ( she is doing great after brain surgery last month)Julie Rose, and Jeremy & Andrew who all have birthdays coming up shortly, Kelsey turned a year old on January 14th. It was a great time, just a little noisey, but grandma was blessed to watched her grandkids and their friends enjoying themselves. As I tell Kenny it makes me feel young ,too!
Betty’s Bits……………………………..God blesses us in our daily life-right where we are! It isn’t the great things we do(some of us will never do anything great) that make us special – it is all the little things that we all do everyday that when added up make us all special!!
